Dennis Pasia Rabano - January 2005

Dennis Rabano may pass for your typical, regular, competitive athlete. Well, he's not. This is his story:

Two years ago, on November 4, 2002, Dennis had a successful open heart surgery. He's had a heart problem since birth called ventricular septal defect (VSD).

However, he didn't know about it until after he applied for a job as a seaman that same year and had to undergo a medical examination.

Dennis had been training in bodybuilding for 8 years before his open heart surgery. He always trains with heavy weights. His off-season weight plays around 175 lbs. and he competes around the 155 - 160 lbs. category. He competed in 2001 and won several awards.

After his operation, Dennis rested for 2 months and was back in the gym to train for the Mr. Philippines 2004 in Iloilo City last September. There was nothing to stop him from competing again. He placed 3rd in his category and was one of the biggest competitors."Once an athlete, always an athlete.", says Dennis.

Dennis is now preparing for the upcoming events for this year, 2005. His dream is to one day become an international ambassador of goodwill for the Philippines to promote the sport of bodybuilding.

If we have to choose an athlete for bravery and determination, Dennis would have to be our main man. No obstacle can get in the way of his love for the sport. Not even a heart defect. This makes him a special athlete, above all the rest!
