Richie Suntay - August 2002
RICHIE SUNTAY is the man for all seasons and the man for all reasons. Richie started weight training in 1997, at the age of 24. Having a brother who owned a gym, it was convenient for him to pick up the weights and build up his body from skinny to muscular. He did not take those weights for granted. Instead he worked hard and with a lot of discipline, he was able to achieve his goal to join his first contest in the 1998 Well Ever Fitness Competition in Valenzuela and win the Novice category. Ever since, the competition bug bit him and he snarled the following titles:
- 1998 Slimmers World Aerobics Marathon and Bodybuilding Competition Makati - 3rd place Flyweight
- 1998 Mr. Chinaman, Filipino-Chinese Athletic Fed. Binondo, Manila - 1st place Bantamweight
- 1998 Mr. Santa Claus, Pope Pius Auditorium, Manila - 4th place Bantamweight
- 2000 Mr. Philippines, Cebu City - 6th place Novice Pro
- 2001 Musclemania, AFP theatre, Quezon City - 2nd place Bantamweight
- 2001 ProHealth 2001, San Mateo, Rizal - 2nd place Lightweight
- 2001 Mr. Santa Claus, Pope Pius Auditorium, Manila - 1st place Bantamweight
- 2002 Mr. Philippines, Baguio City - 3rd place Bantamweight
Before Richie got into bodybuilding, he has been involved in the sport of basketball having to play high school NCAA in San Beda as off-guard and becoming the MVP at his home league in Talayan Village, QC in1995, 1999 and 2001. He also plays volleyball and billiards. Currently, a personal trainer at his own gym (Charles Gym), Richie believes that the only way to succeed in this competitive world of bodybuilding is through dedication, hard work and the love of the sport itself. No wonder the big guys in bodybuilding like Jay Catli, Pablo Navarro and Jorlyn Jaime have joined his staff as gym instructors because of sweet success in the air. Richie is the man to beat for all seasons and for all reasons.
