Pinoymuscle welcomes back the new hero in Philippine Bodybuilding - Roderick Ternida.
Jerick, the name everybody knows him by, flew into Ninoy Aquino International Airport December 5, 2003 where a couple of press media and Mayor June Zapanta of Taytay, Rizal awaited him. He won the lightweight division at 148 lbs. of the Musclemania World in Redondo Beach, California, USA last November 15, 2003.
Now, if this was boxing, surely he would have been given a red carpet treatment where the mayor of Manila would have paraded him around the city , halting the business sector of Makati and Binondo and then presented him to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacanang Palace for a press conference and given a check of Php1,000,000 in front of Channel 2 and Channel 7 television cameras, the way they welcomed champion boxer hero Manny Pacquiao who, incidentally, won the same day November 15, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
Unfortunately, this is bodybuilding. Jerick would have to settle for a kare-kare dinner at Barrio Fiesta restaurant. But folks, this is good news to Philippine bodybuilding! Jerick has raised the standard of Pinoy Bodybuilding to new heights! He is now paving the way for other athletes who dream of competing in the USA. High officials of the government and private sponsors of the sport are now becoming aware that Filipino bodybuilders can grab the top trophy in US competitions if given the chance.
